Nationwide

My motivation is my son Jack who is a Type 1 diabetic. It can happen to anyone, we have no genetic history of diabetes and so when Jack was diagnosed it was a shock and life altering for us as a family. There is a a lot to learn and decisions that are life threatening 24 hours a day. What has helped us is the development and accessibility to diabetic technology such as continuous glugose monitor (cgm) this monitors Jacks blood sugars without the invasive finger pricks every 2 hours ( and they hurt!), and insulin pump which drips insulin into his body 24/7. Fundraising helps to research for a cure and to fund cgm's for those who are unable to afford this technology, currently this costs us $387 a month. Chasing unicorns refers to a magical moment: when you get a blood sugar of exactly 5.5 mmol.
