This Summer, I will attempt to break a Guinness World Record for the highest static trapeze act...suspended from a hot air balloon.
Canterbury
Last year we bought you the highest aerial hoop routine suspended from a paraglider over Queenstown. This Summer, we thought we would go a little bit (a lot) higher and a little bit more official.
The plan is to break the current world record for the highest static trapeze act which is currently 2171 feet. The attempt will take place suspended below a hot air balloon at a height of, weather permitting, 5000 feet.

Well there's nothing like a bit of pressure to get the job done (?!). This is a rather big mental, physical and organisational challenge for me that I have wanted to pull together for a number of years. I would happily attempt this on the quiet, but I do believe in using any platform you have, to do good. So here I am, telling you all what I am up to so that 1) we can raise some awareness and funds for a well deserving charity and 2) so I don't pull out! :)
My chosen charity for this event is Big Brothers Big Sisters NZ because supporting youth is a necessary ingredient for a healthy society.
Each year, over 900 young people of New Zealand’s most vulnerable children and young people aged between 6 and 18 years benefit from the support of a carefully screened and trained Big Brother or Big Sister mentor. There is a very real need for BBBS to expand their organisation in order to provide mentors for the hundreds of children on our waiting lists.
As well as raising money for BBBS NZ, I hope to take some BBBS mentors and their mentees up in a second hot air balloon to be where the action is.
13 days to go! 31 January 2016
It's getting close! About 10 days ago I flew to Christchurch to meet up with the rest of the crew. I met up with Michael from Canterbury Ballooning, Wayne from COBi Digital who has taken the lead on filming the event, and Rob the rigger. Wed nutted out some of the finer details about safety, people, requirements set out by Guinness World Records, balloons and photography. I also became recurrent in skydiving, doing a number of jumps from various heights at skydiving kiwis in Ashburton. Was awesome to get back in the air again! So now we just hope like mad that the weather plays the game on the day and until then, I keep practicing trapeze and working on my flexibility around my shift work. Busy times but good times. Thank you for your support and Donations to Big Brothers Big Sisters NZ...they do an amazing job at guiding and mentoring youth to find their passion in life.
