Help fund fresh water projects for kids in the Solomon Islands.
Nationwide
Water in the Solomon Islands:
In the Solomon Islands, children have to walk a long time to get fresh, clean, drinkable water. People in the Solomon Islands have to boil their water before drinking it or it may lead to sickness or rarely even death. Though it rains a lot in Temotu Province and there are natural springs, they have no way of collecting the water. Drinking dirty water can lead to vomiting, diarrhoea, and dysentery.
What ChildFund is doing:
In Temotu Province, there is an old pump and pipe system that can be rehabilitated with the help of ChildFund and Greenergy Pacific, a local non-government organisation (NGO). “With the installation of a solar-powered pump and new pipes to the villages we can get this up and running again,” says Sharon Ione, CEO Greenergy Pacific. This will provide clean water to children and their families.
Donations:
Donating to ChildFund gives children in the Pacific an opportunity to learn and drink clean water. Donate $150 and provide solar panels to power local power pumps, $350 to help build infrastructure like roofs and guttering to capture precious rainwater at schools and community centres, Every single drop of water is precious, and $500 can provide solar-powered water pumps.
We got to choose our school project and chose this because we like the impact it has on kids. When we turn on the tap here in New Zealand, we get fresh, clean water that we can drink. In the Solomon Islands, they have to walk two hours to get fresh water.
