  • We've Finished our 50 Climbs!! Yeeeehaaaa!!!!

    Today we completed 4 climbs to reach our target of 50 in 50 days with a week to spare. Don't bother asking, we are not keen to do any more climbs in the coming week! We think there might be some other hills out there that need some walking. It's been really satisfying and our wonderful generous, encouraging supporters have kept us ticking along. It's been great to be among all the other people out there taking on the challenge of climbing Mauao. Thanks especially for your support for Good Neighbour, which we think is tremendous charity deserving of the support through the Mount Everest Challenge.

  • We’ve done it. It’s a beautiful day on top of Everest!

    Yeah, it was a stunner and perfect day to do our last 4 ascents on the Everest Challenge. Great to share 1 of the climbs today with 1 of our supporters and followed the suggestion of another supporter with finishing the day with a swim. We’ve been particularly inspired by Denise who we’ve seen many times going up and down Mauao - check out her give a little page (https://givealittle.co.nz/fundraiser/this-will-be-a-challenge). She’s decided to do the Challenge not once - but twice, that’s 76 times in 50 days! We’re thinking we might try for 50 in 50 so there could be more updates on that! Thanks everyone for supporting Good Neighbour and we can now hold our heads up high to say…. We did it and we didn’t cheat! Thanks to everyone.

  • A date at the beach!

    A magnificent evening to add another couple of climbs to our new total of 34. Getting real close now and we’re wondering what we’ll do after the target of 38 is reached.

  • Everest Base Camp has been reached!

    Yesterday we reached the equivalent ascent of Everest Base Camp. 23.2 ascents of Mauao by our calculations. Thought you’d like some photographic evidence. We’re still enjoying this increasingly familiar walk and mixing up the times of day we go is helping variety. COVID means we’ll have to carry our own oxygen from here on.

  • Over halfway there!

    Huge milestone today as we passed the halfway mark towards 38 ascents with 20 chalked up. We know every possible route now but they all involve a hill. Thanks for all your generous support. It certainly keeps us pushing along. 3 more and we’re at Everest Base Camp equivalent height gain. We might need to carry oxygen after that.
