In memory of my grandfather, I will be climbing 78 steps for every $2 donated. All proceeds will be going to Dementia Auckland.
Auckland
Recently my grandfather, Dave had passed away. In Daves last few months, he was battling with severe dementia. Some days it would get so bad that he would even struggle to remember the faces of those dearest to him. This is something I believe no one should ever experience, whether it be yourself or your loved ones. In his memory, I have decided to put together this small campaign to help raise funds for Dementia Auckland. An organisation that supports people like Dave who are battling with the difficulties and challenges that Dementia brings.
Not a specific disease, dementia is a group of conditions characterised by impairment of at least two brain functions, such as memory loss and judgment. Someone who has Dementia is faced with challenges including forgetfulness, limited social skills & thinking abilities which may interfere with their daily life. It can be very unpleasant to witness and after seeing my grandfather battle with it, I am hoping to raise funds to support other families experiencing something similar.
For every $2 that is donated, I will climb 78 stairs. The number 78 represents the estimated 78,000 people living with dementia in New Zealand. This figure is extremely high as it is not just them who is being affected but instead everyone around them. Friends, Family, Accquantices. An individual struggling with Dementia might have forgotten the face of everyone. This can be extremely upsetting to see. Speaking from my own experience, having a conversation with a loved one while noticing they have forgotten what you are talking about but also who you be extremely disheartening. Because of this, I have set up this campaign to raise funds for an organisation that supports those dealing with such conditions.
