Cutting My Dreads for Cancer & Mental Health
Hawke's Bay
After nearly a decade of having dreadlocks, I’m finally going to cut them off. I first had dreads as a teenager, cut them & now they’re currently at my waist. Been a pretty massive part of my life & my identity for close to 9 years.
So Nov 5th I’ll be shaving them all off.
They’ve become a huge part of my image, who I am, & how people recognise me. But now I’m ready for a fresh start. They’ve started causing me a lot of day-to-day issues & honestly, it’s finally time to let them go.
Rather than just cutting them off, I wanted to use it as an opportunity to raise money for 2 causes that are really important to me:
Cancer Society & the I Am Hope foundation
Cancer has affected a lot of people around me. Friends, their families & my own family have been through it, so it’s something that has always hit pretty close to home.
I’ve struggled with my own mental health for a lot of my life, which is why I wanted to support I Am Hope too. Mental health is something I think a lot of people quietly deal with, & having organisations that support people through those times is incredibly important.
So, sometime around early Nov, I’m going to say goodbye to nearly a decade of dreads & start fresh.
If you’re able to donate, even a few dollars would mean a lot. Every donation will be split between I Am Hope foundation & the Cancer Society.
If you can’t donate, sharing this around would mean just as much.
Thanks for supporting me, & hopefully we can raise a decent amount together ❤️
