"Peddling" For Dementia

  • Taupo Challenge Done and Done!

      27 November 2023
    Main image

Survived the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge 2023 amidst nature's tantrum—50km/h winds, rain from all angles, and a freeze rivaling a penguin's ice bath. Wooden medal struts like a peacock on performance-enhancing drugs. Rode 160.87km, enduring more than a pirate with a stand-up comedian parrot.

Exciting news: $4000 raised for Dementia NZ, a feat more impressive than a cat playing Jenga while solving a Rubik's Cube. Your generosity flows like syrup on pancakes—huge thanks! The GiveALittle Page closes on December 1, so unleash any last-minute schemes; my dignity's value exceeds the national debt.

Miss the deadline? Fear not! Shower Dementia NZ with love and cash anytime. They welcome kindness like a dog welcomes belly rubs—enthusiastically. You've made this journey unforgettable, memories sticking like glitter at a craft party. Until next time, stay mischievous, stay generous, and if life hands you lemons, make a lemon meringue pie to share with someone in need. Over and out, you absolute legends!

  • 50 Days To Go

      6 October 2023
    Main image

    Greetings, you magnificent folks,

I thought it was high time I dropped you a line, lest you think I'd vanished into thin air or gone soft. Well, fear not, for I've been hard at work, gearing up for the looming Round the Lake spectacle. We're now merely 50 days away from the grand event, and as they say, the rubber's meeting the road.

I recently partook in a cycling extravaganza over the weekend – yes, I completed it, no need for a standing ovation. However, let's not get too carried away with congratulations just yet. If I intend to conquer Round the Lake, there's work aplenty to be done in these next 50 days.

Our fundraising target is within striking distance, and I can't thank each and every one of you enough for your unwavering support. But remember, dear comrades, it's not time to rest on our laurels. No, it's time to recruit friends, family, and everyone in between. Mobilize your contacts, from friendly families to families of friends, and don't forget those colleagues and even the occasional passerby. Should your persuasive skills lead to any compromising situations, well, I might just look the other way.

Together, let's crank the gears of progress and pedal dementia into the annals of history, where it belongs.

Adieu for now, and stay as classy and stellar as you've always been, you splendid souls.

  • We Made It Past $1500 - Keep Peddling

      8 September 2023

We've rocketed past the $1500 mark, thanks to you fantastic folks! Your generosity could put Mother Teresa to shame. Every dollar is like a lightsaber-wielding Jedi in our battle against dementia.

I knew Kelly Byrne and James Francis, true superheroes battling dementia. To their families and everyone fighting this, you're not alone.

It's Spring, World Alzheimer's Awareness Month, and the Rugby World Cup is here - what a month! I took a 105km bike spin from Castlepoint to Masterton; check my Strava for the details. We're 77 days from the big Lake Taupo event. Keep the support coming!

If this update didn't tickle your funny bone, no worries. I've got enough humor to make a stand-up comedian jealous. Thanks for being as awesome as a unicorn in a tuxedo! Stay stellar!

  • Lets Keep Going

      31 August 2023

In this update, the generosity of you wonderful people shines brighter than a supernova. Your support for Dementia NZ is as heartening as finding a cold beer after a day of off-roading. The CEO of Trust House, John, is our elusive target. We're aiming to make his wallet open faster than a McLaren's dihedral doors. But here's the kicker: John's wallet is as rare as a sighting of Bigfoot.

With 86 days left till the main event, my goal is simple: finish in daylight. Dementia, like a rusting car in the rain, erodes memories. Kelly Byrne and James Francis' battles exemplify this, their families watching helpless.

Now, the custom jersey is on the horizon, a sartorial revelation to rival a supercar. To those who know me, the color is no secret. But for the curious, expect a hue as bold as a flamingo in a car park.

Keep rallying friends, family, and distant cousins at family picnics. Donations, big or small, fuel our dementia-fighting mission. It's not just a journey; it's a turbocharged transformation.

And for the curious, track me on Strava, or join the Zwift journey from the comfort of fair-weather safety.

Now, I can practically hear Kelly's voice in my head, asking, "Hey there, how's the training going?" Yep, Kelly, I promise I'm hitting the pavement and breaking a sweat – all for a fantastic cause, of course! • Training In Progress - T-minus 102 Days To Go

      15 August 2023

    Hey Dementia Defenders!

You legends have truly outdone yourselves with these donations. Dementia NZ must be doing the happy dance right about now, thanks to all of you!

Can we take a moment to appreciate the awesomeness? Your generosity is like a superhero cape, ready to swoop in and make lives better for those with dementia and their fams. You're basically the Justice League of Changing Lives!

Now, let's talk about my training. Yes, I've noticed some raised eyebrows and puzzled looks – "Is our fearless supporter taking a snooze?" Fear not, dear backers, I haven't swapped my lycra for PJ's permanently. Just a tiny glitch because apparently, adulting is a thing. Who knew?

But hold onto your hats, folks – T-minus 102 days till the big event. Brace yourselves, because once I'm done adulting (ugh, responsibilities), I'll be back in action like a caffeinated squirrel.

Here's the deal. You keep being your amazing, supportive selves, and I promise to channel my inner Rocky Balboa and give this training my all. And hey, why not share this page like it's the juiciest gossip in town? Let's go viral, people!

Thanks a gazillion for sticking with me through life's plot twists. Together, we'll rock this event and show the world what true dementia-defeating, life-changing rockstars look like. Stay awesome, spread the word, and watch this space for the triumphant return of my training escapades!

Keep shining bright and sharing this page like it's the last piece of chocolate in a candy store.

  • Keep Rolling Rollin Rollin Rollin

      7 August 2023

Hey generous folks! Your donations have been pouring in, and I can't thank you enough for your support. Training update: I'm still indoors, avoiding the unpredictable weather like a pro. Swift's worlds are my new best friends, and my brother from South Africa is my wingman. Not breaking records yet, but hey, improvement is improvement!

For this momentous occasion, I'm getting a custom jersey that'll rock all the Dementia colors. It's a nod to those living with dementia, lost loved ones, caregivers, and dreamers of a dementia-free world. Now, here's the fun part: I need your creativity! Send in your wildest designs and hilarious slogans for the jersey. Let's make this fundraiser memorable and laughter-filled!

  • Many Thanks - Lets Keep Pushing On

      28 July 2023

I'm thrilled to report that our page has been nothing short of amazing! Thank you all for the insanely generous donations you've made. Seriously, you're all like superheroes with hearts of gold!

Our mission to make a difference in the lives of those living with dementia is gaining serious momentum.

Let me take you on a little journey – not just about our cause, but my own wild ride too. Picture this: 2022, a year full of bizarre medical misadventures. The doctors played mad scientists, conducting their experiments on me, trying to figure out what's going on. But I survived it!

In the midst of this health rollercoaster, a friend asked me to step on the scales. I was tipping almost 100kg! So, with newfound determination, I kicked off my New Year's morning on a borrowed bike and began my cycling escapades.

Fast forward, and here I am, folks – 82kg and feeling great!

But this isn't just about me and my cycling adventures. It's about how your generosity and support have combined to create a powerful force for good. Together, we're pedaling towards a brighter future for those affected by dementia.

So, let's keep this fantastic momentum going! Share the page, spread the word, and let's make even more magic happen. Together, we can create positive ripples and make a meaningful impact on the lives of those who need it most.

Once again, a big heartfelt thanks to each one of you. You're all rockstars, and I can't wait to see the incredible change we'll achieve together!
