Alzheimers Awareness fundraiser: 'Dynamo Daisy' a.k.a Tracey McConnachie is back - with 13 more daredevils skydiving for Dementia!
Nelson / Tasman
Last year, Tracey McConnachie - a.k.a. Driving Miss Daisy Nelson West's Dynamo Daisy - undertook a skydive to raise funds for Alzeimers Society Nelson during Alzheimers Awareness month. She raised nearly $2,000. This year she's back - but with 13 more daredevil divers - generous and caring people connected both directly and indirectly to Tracey who are joining in to support this cause that is close to home for many of us; 4 out of 5 New Zealanders know or have known someone living with dementia.
Alzheimers Society Nelson / Tasman offers support, advocacy and education to those with dementia, and to those friends and families affected by it. But it doesn't stop there: 70% of New Zealanders with dementia live in our communities rather than in secure care, and they want to lead full and active lives doing the things they enjoy in their communities, just like all of us - and they need those communities to be safe, welcoming and inclusive.
Driving Miss Daisy Nelson West is proud to be a part of supporting those in our community with Dementia.
The big day is Sunday 19 September. Here are the members of the 'Daisy Diving Squad' who are going above and beyond to help build a dementia-friendly community in Nelson / Tasman;

They did it! 20 September 2021
Sunday 19th - 'D' Day - The sun was shining, the clouds waited, the nerves held; there was a bit of a shuffle in the lineup along the way, but 9 daredevil divers made it into the air - and down again safely! Thank you to all who supported on the day, and to Alheimer's Society Nelson Tasman who brought the cake for sustenance. And a huge thanks to Abel Tasman Skydive who made it all happen smoothly, calmed nerves and got everyone safely back to 'Terra Firma' (although I think it was a case of 'the more firmer, the less terror'! We'll have updates from other skydivers as they come in...
