Help us to support Home and Family Society in their work giving children safe and positive futures.

Canterbury

Home and Family Society is hosting its annual dance spectacular on 21 September, 2019, to raise the vital funds it needs to help give children and their families the support that they need.

Home and Family’s vision is that ‘all children will live in homes with whānau/family who cherish them, keep them safe and nurture their potential’. It supports children and their families in three important ways:

• The parenting programme gives parents the space and skills necessary to become safe, effective and nurturing parents, helping to keep families together.

• Counselling services support both children and parents, but particularly those children who have experienced abuse or family violence.

• The Refocus programme works with children and their families, helping to break cycles that can result in young people entering the youth justice system.

We - Ashlee and Daniel - are among 10 pairs of beginner and seasoned dancers who will learn and perform a dance for a large audience at Christ’s College Auditorium. Alongside the choreography and rehearsals, we are also aiming to fund raise an additional $6000 to support the Society. Donating will give us a sense of satisfaction that our dancing efforts are appreciated, but more importantly it will help pave the way for more children to live safe and positive futures.

For our part at the main event, we will be performing a Swing routine choreographed for the occasion by Daniel. Swing dancing began in the 1920s in the USA, and was in full swing, so to speak, during the ’30s and ’40s. A family of dance styles, Swing developed hand-in-hand with big band jazz music of the time, evolving for the most part out of traditional African American dance culture. At its heart, Swing is about creativity, fun, and communication between dance partners, all glued together with a lively rhythm.

So please make a difference in the lives of our children: donate, and then get a ticket to see our fancy footwork! Thank you!

Ashlee and Daniel are excited to support the good work of Home and Family, and dancing on stage in front of hundreds of people plus three judges is the least we could do.

One last thanks!  22 September 2019

The show was last night and everyone had heaps of fun - competitors and audience alike. And, importantly, Home and Family raised over $10k - a successful night. You helped Ashlee and myself bring in over $1000 here, and we raised over $2000 in total.

We danced a Lindy Hop routine and I must say Ashlee did great learning the techniques of the dance style, and it really showed on the night. In the end we didn't win, but the kids that Home and Family supports did :)

Charitable fundraising is hard, so we were really happy to support such a worthwhile organisation.

Thanks one last time for your generosity!
