Helping raising funds towards a new trampoline offered to DGA after the Indo Pacific Championships in Napier
Otago
Trampoline is increasingly popular at Dunedin Gymnastics Club (DGA). The equipment is not only used by our trampolinists but also by our other programmes such as Gym For All and Parkour. We also share our equipment with the Diving Club.
We have been given the opportunity to purchase a trampoline used at the Indo Pacific Championship being held in Napier (21-25 October). It is a privilege for New Zealand to host this international event, and we are very grateful for the opportunity to get a trampoline used by top trampolinists.
In the last few months the DGA has been forced to close two of its venues due to asbestos contamination. In the process over $120,000 worth of gymnastics equipment has had to be written off. Our existing trampolines are currently being given a special treatment to clear them from asbestos.
So we are seeking support to get a new trampoline, clear from any contamination, to continue our popular programme.
DGA are committed and passionate about children and movement and the long lasting benefits gym sports have on a person's life. It is our mission to foster a positive and inclusive gymnastic community that promotes potential and success for all.
One of my sons is a keen trampolinist. This year has been tough for the Club with both venues affected by asbestos contamination.
As I started training for the Queenstown Marathon a few weeks ago I decided to take the opportunity of this event to raise funds for the trampoline offered to the Club.
I will be running the Half Marathon on 19th November.
I did my first race there last year and it was an amazing experience. Having the added motivation of raising funds for the Club keeps me on track with my training.
I am not a top athlete (don't expect any record breaking times!), but I am a mum passionate about keeping kids and teenagers active.
