Don the Geologists 2024 Sounds 2 Sounds bike ride

Hi Folks

I’m participating in the 2024 Sounds to sounds - a 1,500 km journey through the spectacular South Island of NZ from the beautiful Marlborough Sounds to the awe inspiring grandeur of Fiordland. I feel privileged to be able to undertake a trip like this and will be sharing my experiences along the way as best i can.

I have been lucky to have a career as geologist that has taken me all over the world, including some of the poorest nations on the planet. Life in these countries is a struggle, and they have so little compared to what we take for granted.

So while doing this ride - on would like to take the opportunity to raise money for Effective Altruism NZ. This groups philosophy is to evaluate charities, and put money where it can make the most difference to people’s lives. In the west we are typically in the top 99% of income in the world, which i think gives some perspective on this. The dollars that we can donate make a much bigger difference in these poor parts of the world. Through effective altruism - money goes to third world countries to help with things like life saving medicine, providing loans for small businesses, making a real difference to people’s lives and their futures.

I’m riding 1,500 km - so that seems like a good goal to start with. Every dollar will help, and know that what you donate will be making a real difference! Thanks so much..
