FYD Southland’s mission is to deliver proven programmes that bring positive change to the lives of young people here in the south.

Southland

The Foundation for Youth Development reaches over 1300 local school-aged Kiwis each year through Kiwi Can and Career Navigator.

These programmes teach life skills that are not a part of the school curriculum, but help make the school environment more effective and harmonious. Their programmes also give students tools and techniques to use once they've exited school, along with self-belief and confidence to meet challenges head on.

The result is happier, healthier, more well-rounded youth which in turn means a brighter, more vibrant future for New Zealand.

Through extensive, ongoing research we know for a fact that FYD programmes;

Improve attitudes and behaviour

Improve academic results

Help young people set and achieve their goals

Boost self-confidence

Reduce truancy rates and at risk behaviors (eg substance abuse)

Help young people feel more positive about the future

And that's what we all want, right?

John Prendergast's involvement (page creator)

I believe the kids are our future and we need to give them the best start possible and FYD is a great organisation to support to achieve this.
