Fundraising for Life Matters Suicide Prevention Trust
Otago
Kia ora. We are doing the 5km run in the Dunedin Marathon on the 12th of September 2021 to raise money for Life Matters Suicide Prevention Trust. In the year ending in June 2020, 654 people were reported to have died by suicide in New Zealand. Every death by suicide is one too many. The existing mental health systems we have in NZ are not working well enough and organisations like Life Matters are crucial to bridge the gaps and save lives.
Life Matters is a charitable organization that does invaluable work for mental health in New Zealand, especially for those living in Dunedin. This work includes supporting people struggling with suicidality, raising mental health awareness, education, advocacy, and supporting those bereaved by suicide. Life Matters runs the Hope Centre, a safe and welcoming place that people can go to get help with navigating mental health services and dealing with the loss caused by suicide. They also fund counselling sessions and provide free peer support to those who need it. Thank you for your donations. Every dollar helps.
