I'm walking 250kms over the month of March to fundraise for Endometriosis NZ
Nationwide
I know a fair amount about Endometriosis.
I know that it is a debilitating chronic pain disease that affects 1 in 10 women worldwide. I know that no one really fully understands what causes it. I know how difficult it is to get help and that the estimated time to be diagnosed takes 7 years. I know about the other health conditions that tend to go hand in hand with Endo. I know about the pain that stretches from your back, through your pelvis to your legs, leaving you unable to walk. I know that it causes infertility in some women. I know that the best way to get some form of relief is through invasive surgeries. I know about the swelling in your pelvis and abdomen, the sadness that comes with not being able to do up your jeans. I know about the fatigue that comes from constantly fighting pain. I also know, that there is no cure.
I know a fair amount about Endometriosis. I should do. I've lived with it for 12 years.
In those 12 years, unfortunately not a lot has changed in terms of the understanding of why this disease occurs or how we might cure it. That's why over the month of March, I'm walking 250kms to raise funds and awareness for Endometriosis New Zealand. Fundraising for Endometriosis NZ means that they can continue to offer their services, including education, support, advocacy, foster collaborative research and work with stakeholders involved in improving health outcomes for those like me, with Endometriosis
Week One 9 March 2022
Started the week off with a hiss and roar as they say!
49.54kms (don't get me started, I absolutely would have gone the extra 0.46 had I known I was that close!!!)
I've been to some beautiful wee spots, and luckily the weather has been pretty great for me so far. It's been a really great reminder that sometimes when things get overwhelming, a walk on a calm day can do wonders for the body, mind and soul.
Thanks so much to everyone who has donated or reached out with words of support and love. I'm so grateful!
The pic attached is from Sunday, a gorgeous 13km walk round to Pencarrow lighthouse and back.
