Climbing 8848m to try and raise $8848
Wellington
It's estimated that 1 in 5 kids in NZ are living in hardship.
Through no fault of their own, these kids often go without even the basic essentials because their families don't have a choice. Going without limits their opportunities, and their possibilities.
In order to try and give a couple of kids the chance to enjoy some opportunities that they otherwise might not have, I'm going to ride my bike for a few hours.
On Saturday the 11th of December, I will be heading to one of my local hills, and riding up and down 141 times, until I reach the height of Mt Everest (8848m).
I don't know if I can do it- the total distance will be over 200km and it will take about 14 hours, but if a little bit discomfort for me means that a couple of kids have jackets next winter, then it'll all be worth it.
All funds raised are going directly to KidsCan. Through them:
$25 provides sturdy shoes and socks for children
$25 gives a cosy jacket to keep a child warm and dry in winter
$50 can help provide a cosy jacket, sturdy shoes and socks to keep a kid warm and dry
$600 helps give a preschooler food, clothing and health products for a year
$1,000 will give 500 hot meals for children in need
Any support is appreciated!
I got to the top! 14 December 2021
Most of you will have already heard, or even been there, but with the help of my friends and family, I managed to complete 141 reps!
Stuff wrote a little article- https://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/wellington/127259259/cyclist-scales-the-height-of-mt-everest-without-leaving-his-neighbourhood
Now the final push is on to reach the funding goal- please use me riding up and down a hill a silly number of times as a conversation starter to talk with family, friends, hell even random people you meet at Christmas parties about the great work that Kidscan do! They might feel like donating!
Thanks to everyone for your support, I am super grateful to know so many people willing to support a great cause.
