FFC Ride 4 KidsCan

  • Day 5 - hills and more hills

      24 March 2016

100 kms Wanaka to Queenstown with a side jaunt up to Coronet Peak. A gentle role through the Cardrona Valley before a surprisingly long and steepening ride to the top of the Crown Range. Quick stop for a photo and refresh before a fast descent down to Arrowtown and a scone and coffee. Great loading for the final climb of the tour to the Coronet Peak carpark. After 4 days of magnificent weather we finally had a patch of rain which made for a cold descent and ride into Queenstown for end of tour celebrations - particularly to celebrate hitting our overall fundraising goal of $150,000. Thank you all for your very kind support for this great cause.

112 kms Omarama to Wanaka via Lindis Pass. Started with a gradual climb up to the Lindis Pass - last few kms a grind but the fast descent down the other side more than made up for it. Lunch in Tarras and last 35 kms into Wanaka ended with a sprint into town and a dip in the lake to cool off. Thanks again for all of your kind donations. Very lucky also to have some great support out here on the road.

Day 3 155 kms Tekapo - Omarama with side visit to Benmore. Flying start to the day heading south with a gentle decline. Unbelievable views of the lakes and mountains behind. Morning tea in Twizel and a tour of the Benmore dam all thanks to our major sponsor Meridian Energy.

  • Day 2 update

      21 March 2016

Day 2 - 100 kms Geraldine to Tekapo. Started warm and calm, finished warm and really windy from the side. Brilliant views coming over into the Mackenzie country. Everyone still fizzing after a long couple of days in the saddle. Chaffing cream coming in handy. Thanks everyone for all your support!

  • Day 1 complete!

      19 March 2016

36 lycra clad fathers from the FFC rolled out of Christchurch early this morning, starting our 5 day adventure, heading across the plains and out towards the hills... on a stunning Canterbury day. After a modest canter the pace picked up on crossing the Rakaia River, assisted by a strong gale... at one point pushing the group along at a cool 65kmh. We stopped for lunch in Staveley and finished the day with a blistering 50 odd km south into Geraldine. No major issues, all safe and sound, some tired legs in need of rest before getting into some climbing tomorrow and great scenery on the way to Tekapo...
