I'm running full marathon in Queenstown in memory of my late mother-in-law that passed away from pancreatic cancer.
Auckland
Pam, my mother-in-law, sadly passed away from pancreatic cancer nearly two years ago. What some of you might not know, is that when she was diagnosed with this horrible disease she was already stage 4, and facing an average life expectancy of only 6-9 months. Soon after starting her treatment, she was offered an opportunity to take part in a trial for a very new program at the time - immunotherapy. Thanks to immunotherapy and her incredible fighting spirit she went on to live 2 years and 7 months from diagnosis. During this time we all moved to New Zealand, and spent the most precious moments with her. Jackie could be with her every day, and Toby and Finn got to spend special time with their Nana. She lived a normal life surrounded by the ones that loved her the most.
As it is coming up to the second anniversary of her death, I have decided to do something to honour what an amazing person she was, how important she was to us and what a fighter she was. Last year I ran the Auckland half marathon and it was hard! So, I have decided that this year I will push myself even further and run the full marathon in Queenstown in Pam’s Memory. At the same time, I would like to raise money for New Zealand’s first Institute researching immunotherapy – Malaghan Institute. Please donate to help them try to give people the best possible chance at getting more of the most important thing in the world… time with their loved ones.
My mother-in-law died of pancreatic cancer. She lived for 2 and half years since being diagnosed, thanks to immunotherapy.
