I plan to run a 100 km charity run loop around Christchurch in August to raise funds and awareness for the New Zealand Gynaecological Cancer
Canterbury
My name is Brogan Ramsay and this year I am taking part in a 20 week long fitness challenge running from 2 May 2016 – 18 September 2016.
As part of this challenge I have set myself the massive goal of running a 100 km loop around Christchurch in order to raise funds for the New Zealand Gynaecological Cancer Foundation.
I have chosen to fundraise for the New Zealand Gynaecological Cancer Foundation for a number of reasons, including having personal ties to those who have fought a gynae cancer, but in particular because I feel the work they do is incredibly important and it has shocked me to find out that they are non-Government funded.
Gynaecological cancers are often silent killers with symptoms that at times may be mistaken for nothing serious until it’s too late.
To put it in New Zealand statistics (sourced from the foundation themselves at, http://rnzcgp.org.nz/ )
• Every year in New Zealand over 860 women will be diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer, and one woman dies every day
A clear goal the Foundation is aiming to achieve is in raising more awareness around the many types of gynaecological cancers, while supporting those affected by them, which in my opinion makes the Foundation an invaluable asset to NZ women.
I battled with a medical condition for a number of years that if left unchecked causes me many issues. After being told several years ago by doctors that I would struggle with strenuous and physical activity due to this condition I sought to find ways to control it, this resulted ultimately in a dietary and lifestyle change and a significant increase in exercise leading me to do my first 20 week challenge event in 2013.
Since then I have run in multiple events including at least 6 half marathons, 2 x 25km trail runs, 2 x duathlons/triathlons and in November 2015 I completed my first full marathon in Queenstown.
This year my goals are to run my first Ultra marathon event at Kepler in December and a further two marathons. I am so grateful to be able to do these sorts of events and I am incredibly excited to be able to train for this 100 km charity run and be able to give in some way to a cause I am extremely passionate about.
I hope that by doing this charity run I am able to raise not only funds, but help further in spreading more awareness for the foundation.
I would greatly appreciate any support with this venture, every donation counts when it goes to a cause such as this. I will be posting regular updates on training efforts, the course I will run and the date of the run on this page and on my Facebook 20 Week Challenge page (linked below).
I am involved in this because I want to give back to a cause I am passionate about.
