At Doc Edge we're dedicated to delivering powerful, authentic, unscripted stories to screens throughout Aotearoa New Zealand, and we spend a lot of time selecting what we think are the very best documentaries available to screen as part of the Doc Edge Festival every year.

And in case you needed another reason to feel good about donating to our Give a Little fundraising campaign, increasingly Doc Edge has found itself taking films that other festivals have been reluctant to take because of controversial topics and the risk of negative press.

Films like THE UNREDACTED, ALL STATIC AND NOISE, IN THE SHADOW OF BEIRUT and 20 DAYS IN MARIUPOL.

Which makes this news extra thrilling.

After the incredible journey of IN THE SHADOW OF BEIRUT (which qualified for Best Documentary at the Oscars by winning Doc Edge's Best International Feature Documentary and then went on to become Ireland's official entry to the Oscars) we're thrilled to announce 20 DAYS IN MARIUPOL - another Doc Edge Festival 2023 award winner - is now Ukraine's proud entry to the Academy Awards!

We sure do know talent when we see it!

Congratulations to the filmmakers, and stick with Doc Edge: the NZ home of award-winning documentaries that resonate and inspire.

    Hi, Sarah here.

I'm just one of the Doc Edge team who worked with The Funding Network on this Generosity Generator campaign. We all learned so much, but we also met a bunch of awesome people doing the good mahi all over the country.

We know times are tough right now - we certainly aren't immune as workers in the arts sector! - which is why I wanted to say again, on behalf of Doc Edge, thank you to everyone who has donated.

Every donation helps, every donation makes a difference.

And so do those of you who are helping spread the word about the campaign, or talking about what we do; be it the festival, the Virtual Cinema (I recognise some names from my time on the ticketing phone), our Schools Programme or our Industry arm.

Yes we need to raise money to help Doc Edge thrive, but supporting Doc Edge is more than just that, and I can honestly say that getting to see your positive comments really makes our day.

So let's keep this figure growing, and keep spreading the word. Documentary matters!

    Sarah (Virtual Cinema /Ticketing/Outreach)
