Raising funds for Pet Refuge NZ while completing 28,000km on the Trans-Canada Trail!

Nationwide

Hi folks!

I’m currently completing 28,000km on the Trans-Canada Trail via hiking, cycling & canoeing!! Alongside this, I have chosen to fundraise for a charity close to my heart in Canada, Chiots Nordiques (CN). HOWEVER, I recognize that a lot of my support still comes from friends & whānau in NZ & if this is you & you would like to support, you may want to keep your funds going local. Therefore, I will also be fundraising for Pet Refuge NZ (PR), a charity advocating for animal welfare, just like CN!

After researching all of the charities related to animal welfare in NZ I settled on PR because they enlightened me on an issue that my mind has thankfully never had to turn to: What happens when somebody needs to escape domestic violence but has pets involved? Through my research, PR has educated me on how prevalent animal cruelty is in domestic violence & how victims, usually women, will delay leaving abuse out of fear for their pets safety. To help solve this issue, PR have established a temporary shelter to keep pets safe while their owners escape abuse. This is available to anyone throughout NZ as they will also make arrangements to get the pets transported to the shelter when necessary.

I wish I could expand on this more as this issue needs to be highlighted more. However, I’m limited to a word count here. So for more info, please go here: https://www.petrefuge.org.nz/

If you would like more info on my journey overall, please see the links below.

Thank you for your support!

Close-Down  21 May 2025

Hi everyone!

Thank you to those who kindly gave to this fundraiser while Stoney and I were on the trail last summer. Unfortunately, I've found that I've struggled to find excess time and energy to promote this fundraiser while on our expedition. Because of this, I am choosing to close down this fundraising page for now - if my capacity changes to be able to promote it in the future, I will consider re-opening it!

I'm disappointed that this is the outcome of my fundraising efforts but sometimes we have to let some things go. Right now, it's this.

Again, thank you to everyone who has supported us this far - we are due back on the trail for stage two very soon (tomorrow!!)
