Shaving my hair to fundraise money for Graci foundations work towards gynaecological cancer research and treatment.
Nationwide
Hello all!
My names George and if I could I’d like to entertain you briefly, I realise there is a lot of things happening in the world and country right now but if I could have your attention for two minutes it would mean a lot for me.
Coming out of our level 3 lockdown my family and I were given the news of my Gran being diagnosed with Ovarian cancer. My world fell apart. After not seeing her all of lockdown and keeping our distance for safe measures to be given this news crumbled me.
I had forgotten the fact my Grans a fighter and just last week she received her second to last chemo treatment.
Something that runs in my family is the ability to retain our hair, something I’ve most definitely taken for granted. Obviously with the chemo my Gran lost her hair, first in small handfuls then in clumps till eventually she asked my Mum to cut it all off.
The luscious locks that sit on my head have been growing for just over two years now.
The average time for hair loss to take effect after chemo treatment is 2-4 weeks.
109 weeks I’ve been growing my hair, and 2 weeks after my Grans treatment she’s shaving her head.
With this info and the ever lasting push from my parents, employers, friends and family I have decided to shave my hair, and donate it to the Freedom wigs company based in Dunedin who for years have been making wigs for cancer patients, and other hair loss patients in NZ.
Now the part that I need you for, 109 x 2 weeks = 218 which is how much I’m wanting to fundraise for the Graci foundation who are constantly researching gynaecology cancer treatment’s and development right here in NZ.
Please donate as much or as little as you can to this amazing foundation. And if you can’t donate just promise me you won’t take advantage of things like your hair or the time you get to spend with your loved ones.
Stay blessed all and thank you,
George
