While it is good to be home, it is also important to remember what this fundraiser was all about. Georgia was a beautiful, intelligent, amazing young woman whose family loved her unconditionally. This campaign was a reminder that there are other amazing young people in our communities who need the support and expertise of I Am Hope. While we do not have the knowledge and skills to support people with mental health challenges, we can donate so those who can help do. It has been a real privilege to support this cause. Thank you to Georgia's family for allowing me to do this. Finally, a very big thanks to all who have donated. Every dollar helped.

You are such an inspiration Cynthia and for such a worthy cause. Georgia was so fortunate to have a whanau willing to share her story, as well as help others. Georgia has been honoured and hopefully this will help the whanau in their healing journey, also. I am Hope is such a valuable resource for others to tap into for support and many can be inspired to do as you have done to honour their loved ones, maybe in different ways.

I have just 5kms to go to reach Santiag o de Compostela. Yesterday I wandered around a local church in Lavacolla where people were working hard preparing the cemetery for All Saints Day on 1 November. I couldn't help but think would'n't it be wonderful if instead of celebrating Halloween by dressing up as ghouls etc, we recognised all those in our families who have died, especially those who took their own lives. They are part of who we are, they are us, they are saints to us, no matter how or why they died. Please keep shaing the links to this page. Thank you to all who have donated so far.

  • Challenges

      21 October 2025

Some days are harder than others and the last two days have been really testing.Rain, squalls, steep terrain, nowhere for food! But this is not about me and the challenges I face are nothing compared to those experienced by families who have a family member with mental illness. This is about families like Georgia's, it's about the wonderful work done by I Am Hope, and it's about all the wonderful peopke who have so generously supported this page. What made today a whole lot better was arriving in Bardadelo and finding more donations had been made, that's what keeps me putting one foot in front of the other.

Yesterday in the little village of Villadangos in northern Spain I met three kind ladies with very strong NZ connections. It was a privilege to share with them Georgia's Story and the purpose of the Camino. A short time later I found they had made a very generous donation to Georgia's Camino Give A Litrle page. Thank you Yvonne, Tina and Chelsey. Donations can come from anywhere in the most unexpected of circumstanced. All you have to do is share #georgia'scamino. #holyblisters.co.nz

This update is coming to you from Leon in Spain. So far I have walked close to 200kms for Georgia's Camino. Along the way I have been able to tell people about I Am Hope and the wonderful work they do. By I Am Hope t-shirt generates much discussion, most initially think it's because I am hopeful of finishing the Camino. Doing a pilgrimage is hard work, it's tough physically, mentally, and spiritually, but it's not as tough as those who experience mental health issues. So YES, we need help so please keep sharing #georgia'scamino and #holyblisters.co.nz. With still about 200kms to walk it would be good to get to $5000 in Georgia's memory.

It is fantastic to see people continuing to respond to Georgia's story. Thank you very much. I started walking from Burgos on Sunday. So far I have covered 33 kms, just 467 to go! It would be great if we could raise $5 for every km walked. Last night I shared Georgia's story and information about I Am Hope at our shared hostel meal with people from various parts of the world. A number of people immediately Checked out the Give A Little page so here's hoping. Don't forget to keep sharing the links to this page and to holyblisters.co.nz

  • Wow!

      22 September 2025

In just a few days we have raised close to $2000 for I Am Hope in memory of Georgia. This is a wonderful response and will help the I Am Hope foundation continue their work to change attitudes around mental illness, particularly for our rangatahi. I really want to acknowledge Georgia's parents and the courage it took to write Georgia's story. They did so in the hope that it might help others. That it might let others who are struggling know they are not alone and that people care and love them. It might encourage family members to keep asking, listening and always keep hoping. Please share this page (https://givealittle.co.nz/fundraiser/georgia-walking-with-love-in-memory-of-an-amazing) and remember to follow my journey across Spain on holyblister.co.nz

It has only been a few days since Georgia's Camino Give a Little campaign for I Am Hope started, but already, people have been incredibly kind and generous. Thank you all so very much. In just over a week, I start my 500km walk, which means I have too few days to get the message about Georgia and the wonderful work of I Am Hope to as many people as possible. Please share this link with as many as possible: https://givealittle.co.nz/fundraiser/georgia-walking-with-love-in-memory-of-an-amazing Alternatively, people can go to holyblisters.co.nz to read about Georgia or simply Google Geogia's Camino. Thank you all very much, I will keep you all in my thoughts as I walk across Spain.
