Second Chance rescue dog Gus has hip displasia and needs surgery to give him a chance in life.
Nelson / Tasman
Gus, one of our Second Chance rescue dogs, is a Mastiff cross about 5 years old, abandoned at the pound earlier this year. Gus, the 'Gentle Giant, has a great personality, he is good with other dogs, children and cats.
Gus has hip dysplasia and needs at least one hip replacement, probably both. It would be great for Gus to be more mobile and free from any pain.
We are raising funds for Gus’s surgery and also to have two teeth removed while he is under anaesthetic.
Gus used to be a pig hunter's dog and is ready to settle as a family pet. Already he has a loving fosterer who might just take him on forever.
Thank you for helping us give Gus a Second Chance.

Latest news on Gus 15 October 2017
The latest news on Gus is that the vet is reassessing whether he is a good candidate for surgery. We need to be sure that Gus will be able to cope post-surgery because at the moment he can walk and play with other dogs but this will be restricted for weeks, possibly months, after surgery. The operation and aftercare would be in Christchurch so we would have to place Gus with a new foster family and we are not sure if such upheaval is the best thing for Gus right now.
In the meantime Gus is trialling new pain medication the vet has recommended and getting lots of love from his caregiver. Second Chance is committed to giving Gus the best and most comfortable years that he has left.
