Going 'Dry' to raise awareness & funds for I Am Hope/The Key to Life

Auckland

I have decided to ‘go dry’ for the month of July (and beyond.. not going to put a time limit on it) to raise awareness and money for alcoholism/alcohol dependency and the dire drinking culture of New Zealand.

T.b.h, I have always scoffed at the idea of ‘Dry July’, because, I don’t think we should be putting such an emphasis on giving up alcohol for only one month of the year and praising ourselves for doing so.

Alcohol is a huge problem here in New Zealand, for our physical health, our mental health/wellbeing, interpersonal relationships and society in general.

However, I’m not one to judge; I, like most other people, have a ‘love/hate’ relationship with alcohol.

Life as we know it, seems to revolve around drinking; we drink when we are celebrating, when something ‘good has happened’ to us, when we are anxious/nervous/upset or to drown our sorrows. We drink at bars, clubs, parties, dinners, lunches, work events, corporate events, product launches and work meetings, movie nights with the girls, after work drinks with the workmates, after games drinks with the lads, and even boozy champagne brunches!

For some, ‘A few drinks’ one night in the weekend turns into a 3 day bender and that turns into drinking every night of the week and on and on it goes, until you realise you haven’t had a day off drinking for weeks on end… Or maybe it it commonplace for you to get home from work and open a bottle of wine? EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT. Can you relate?

Personally, I’ve had many sober spells.. weeks here, months there, 11 months during pregnancy/birth, 1 year during my ‘health overhaul challenge’ .. and they have been wonderful! Mental clarity, weight loss, increased energy/no hangovers, and more $ in the wallet at the end of the week.

Why are we not ‘going dry’ more often?

This fundraiser for me will be just that.. a bit of a ‘kick start’ into living more healthy, cut booze for a month and then reduce alcohol intake thereafter.

You can follow my updates on my public pages: https://www.facebook.com/evanacorriccoach (and instagram).

So, let’s do this NZ! Support me (and even go dry yourself!?!) in this ‘challenge’ (Unfortunately, yes, it will be!), here’s to 4 weeks + off the wines!

Cheers!

Mike King Ask for Our Help!  9 July 2021

This video made me cry. (Facebook video link in post below)

Cry because I feel helpless…

Helpless that I can make a bigger difference in this country/world; that I don’t have millions in the bank account (damn you, Lotto!!) to help this charity (Key to Life)(and many other worthy causes), that the money raised during Gumboot Friday event is merely enough to support their amazing work for only 3 months; that there are kids (and adults) in our country falling through the mental health system (if they even get seen!!).

And finally, I cried because you can see Mike’s absolute physical, mental and emotional exhaustion in this clip.

He is one of the many that are fighting ever single day to make a significant difference in this country, with mental health and the wellness of our kids.

But I am not helpless, and neither are you.. we can make a difference, if each of us band together....

Please, share this video (link below) so it can reach the requested 50K shares to show support of holding another Gumboot Friday fundraiser day.

Key to Life (Gumboot Friday & I Am Hope) is my chosen charity for my current Give a Little fundraiser ‘Going Dry for Charity’ (Dry July).

Any funds raised will go directly to this organisation.
