Graeme Dingle Foundation's - PROJECT K Program Otumoetai College, Tauranga

  • Day 4- Final Day

    Hello everyone.

I made it home last night. A very long day.

176km. 10 hours of riding. Multiple long hills and got

caught out at the end with the fall of darkness once

    reaching Te Puna.

The journey all together was 545km. With very long hills, such as highway 25 over to Thames or highway 25 leaving Coromandel are mammoth hills on a bike and testing of one's character. I loved it! Power of the mind to overcome difficult situations.

I was fortunate with considerate drivers, who gave me room and tooted encouragement. Truck drivers were cautious, and boy, did I feel small as they slowly passed on an uphill climb!

Finally, a big THANK YOU to YOU for your support for a great cause. The Project K kids are an inspiration to me, who have to get through school with difficult challenges at home. This program teaches them to learn how to dig deep and overcome their personal challenges in life and make somethin of themselves. A very successful program.

$360 raised so far and this drive goes until the end of May, so please spread the word!

    Thank you for your support!

    James

    Hi All.

What a fantastic day riding. Great weather, beautiful Autumn colours.

Mountains and hills greeted me frquently. Most memorable, highway 25 heading to Whitianga from Coromandel!

Thank you Angela for being out there for support.

    Last day tomorrow.

  • Day 2 to Port Jackson Corolmande

Today's ride was 98km , over sealed and unsealed roads. Theìr were plenty of hills to climb with an average elevation of 180metres. It wouldn't be Corolmandel without rain but once I rolled into Corolmandel town tge sun was out, I grabbed a coffee, warmed up and headed out again.

My apologies, Givealittle posted my previous update a day after I posted it, which could be interpreted as I was leaving on Tuesday, when in fact I am leaving on Monday April 26, 2021.

    Hi everyone.

2 sleeps to go! My training has been predominantly running long distances while my bike was getting repaired.

I am nearly packed and ready, body is in good shape.

I have attached the map, 535km. Weather looks OK, a few showers, but that is the Coromandel for ya!

Slow and steady is the game plan, stop when needed.

Thank you everyone for your donations to Graeme Dingle's Project K. These kids involved in the program inspire me. Never give up.

    Love.

    Peace.

    James

  • Cycling to McLaren Falls

      28 March 2021

    Hello eveyrone!

Today was a great training ride. I went from Mount Maunganui through Welcome Bay along Welcome Bay Road to the Ohauiti Rd intersection, up along highway 294 across Cameron Rd to Tauriko and up to McLaren Falls where I stopped at the cafe located in the McLaren Falls Park. If you haven't explored this park it is fantastic for walking and casual biking along the lake. The nature club that has existed for years in the park has done a fantastic job nurting the trees and flowers, it is beautiful. The Falls Cafe is charming and has great nibbles and coffee and other refreshments to buy. After a short respite I was back in the saddle to return down highway 29 to Takitum Drive and back into Mount Maunganui along Hewlett's Road.

    72.8km and it took 3hrs 24 minutes.

Hope you get a chance to explore McLaren Falls Park. Thank you for your support!

  • Cycling the Tauranga-Omokoroa Cycle Trail

      7 March 2021

    Hi everyone!

Training is going well. Today was a 70km 4hour roundtrip ride from Bayfair to Omokoroa on the newly completed Tauranga-Omokoroa Trail. A beautiful ride through Te Puna countryside and along Plummer's Point Rd to Huharua Harbour Park and along to Omokoroa Domain.

To get to the trail take Te Puna Station Road off Highway 2 , park and ride. This road is just past the turnoff for Waimarino, you can get on the cycle trail and it is 17km one way. I highly recommend it. Or, from Huharua you can cycle to Omokora, 5km one way, very nice and grab an ice cream at the end.

For fundraising please share with friends where to go to donate to Project K. They just go to Givealittle Page and search Project K Otumoetai College.

Thank you so much and enjoy your ride!

    James
