Shaving my beard to raise funds to make sure kids in my area have lunch for school
Auckland
For more than 18 years I've had a beard. My wife has never seen me clean shaven, and neither have my kids.
This Movember, that's changing.
I'm shaving it all off to raise money for the Good Works Trust, a local North Shore charity helping families facing food insecurity.
As a dad of three, I know how important a simple lunch can be. When children are hungry, learning suffers. Attendance drops. Opportunities are missed.
Every week during school terms, the Good Works Trust provides more than 64 "make at home" lunch kits across 10 local schools. These kits are distributed through schools and support workers to families where food insecurity is a barrier to attendance and learning.
Even their most basic lunch kit provides around 17 lunches, enough to feed three children for a school week. It gives families practical support while preserving dignity and helping children engage fully in their education.
The Good Works Trust spends approximately $1,000 every week on food support alone. My goal is simple: turn one very ugly month of facial hair into something that helps local families thrive.
If you'd like to support me, and more importantly support the families served by the Good Works Trust, I'd be incredibly grateful for any contribution.
