Donating my locks & fundraising for Breast Cancer Foundation

$790 donated
Given by 23 generous donors in 7 weeks

Cutting my hair for charity and raising funds along the way.

Canterbury

I've always had long hair and have been too afraid to cut it. This year I'm taking the plunge to help others. I will be donating my hair to help create wigs for those in need and would like to use this opportunity to raise funds for the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation.

There is a minimum length of 20cm in order to donate and help create a wig. If I can obtain a length of 30cm then my donation can be processed here in NZ rather than the States - let's see how brave I can be.

As more and more young women are being diagnosed with Breast Cancer, I'd like to do my little bit to help raise awareness and some funds along the way.

This page directly supports the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation and every dollar helps. October is 'Breast Cancer Action Month' and I will be running this fundraiser through until the last day of October. Your contribution is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

My granddad passed away from cancer when my dad was 7, his step dad passed away from cancer when I was 7. My grandma has had breast cancer and survived. Friends are being diagnosed with breast cancer or melanoma and it really is quite scary. If I can help raise funds and help increase awareness then hopefully my small actions can lead to something bigger.

So light and fresh!  14 September 2016

It's done! at 3.20pm on Tuesday 13th Sept I said goodbye to my long locks. My hair was put into a ponytail, plaited and then cut. Approx 35 cm! The change in weight was instant and felt so strange to have hair sitting above my shoulders. The hairdresser did another rough cut before adding the texture in and styling it. I can only just make a ponytail with the top layers ^_^

Brushing my hair takes 2 seconds if that.

I'm still getting used to the light feeling but enjoying the more professional look.

Thanks for all the support so far. I truly have some amazing and generous friends xo

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
