Run for Cancer
Te Awamutu, Waikato
On Saturday 30th of April I will be participating in my first half marathon at Mount Maunganui.
I've decided that this run would be the perfect opportunity to raise some money for a cause close to my heart.
My family have suffered a great deal over the years losing loved ones to cancer, ongoing/reoccurring battles with cancer and many family members have now being diagnosed with the hereditary BRCA1 cancer gene.
This gene increase the chance of getting breast cancer from 13% to 55-72% and the chance of getting ovarian cancer from 1.2% to 39-44%, resulting in the need for life changing surgeries to reduce the risk.
Whilst I have been an active member of the gym for many years I am not a runner, my lungs don't like running, my legs don't like running and I don't really enjoy running. I would much rather be lifting weights in the gym. So it's fair to say this run will be a massive struggle for me.
I've been training for the run since mid January and will be completing the run alongside a friend. If for whatever reason the run is cancelled (Covid) I will still complete the distance on the 30th of April in a loop around Te Awamutu.
A quick thank you to Tony at Zero Limits gym in Te Awamutu for helping me on this journey and creating a personalised running, mobility and strength and conditioning program for me to help me prepare for this run.
And a massive thank you in advance to anyone who donates, it's hugely appreciated!
