Hank & Karen - Mt Everest Challenge

  • 25 March - 37 & 38

Last two climbs, accompanied by our great friend Liz (thanks for your support Liz). It was misty and drizzling but with two days off our legs were fresh again. Since our first climb back in February we both reduced our climb times! Hank by 8 mins (20 mins down to 12) and Karen by 6 mins (23 mins to 17). Proves we are fitter, faster and stronger and thanks to our generous donators have raised some money for a worthy cause. Thanks to everyone who supported us xxx

Lovely evening for these two climbs. Great views, watched yachts going out on the harbour. Bumped into a friend along the track. Two climbs to go on Saturday.

Two more climbs! Started a bit late so it was nearly dark coming down on our second climb. Good timing to be finishing this week. Will be doing four in a row so legs will be tired tomorrow night!

      19 March 2018

These are our 7th & 8th climb this week. Making it 30 altogether and 8 to go. Humid weather made these two climbs a little slow but our legs are definitely stronger and less puffing on the steep parts!!! 8 more to reach our goal.

Up early Sunday morning to do our 21 and 22 climbs. A triathlon was on so the roads were closed into the Mt. Lots of people climbing. Sunny day but a little bit breezy. Starting to feel fitter. Aiming to do 8 climbs per week for the next two weeks and finish climbing a week early (by 25 March). Thanks for the generous donation this week!

Hot balmy night for these two climbs. Hank had a cold over the weekend and early in the week, hence waiting until Thursday to do our first climbs! First one was a bit of a struggle, but once the blood was pumping the 2nd one was better. Keep forgetting to take my phone up to get a photo, so this one is taken looking up after our climb. Next two climbs we will be halfway to our goal :-)

  • 4 March - 15 & 16

      4 March 2018

Celebrated our 13th anniversary with two more climbs and accompanied by our good friend Sarah (nice work!). Lovely day and lots of people walking the Mt in a group climb and hopefully this will raise more awareness for the cause.

      4 March 2018

Saturday morning climb. Started a bit late so it was nice and hot. Starting to feel fitter with each climb. 3rd & 4th climb with new huarache's. Traction control with new tread is much better and lime green makes me feel a lot faster! Photos to come.

  • 1 March - 11 & 12 climbs

      1 March 2018

Two more climbs. Bit of an overcast day. Seeing familiar faces on the track of other people doing the challenge. Very impressed seeing young Mum's carrying their little one's up in backpacks. Lots more people are wearing their challenge singlet tops, so good to be able to cheer them on.

  • 21 February - 7th & 8th climb

      22 February 2018

After a couple of rest days (and rain dodging!), we headed back up with two climbs today. It was a lovely evening and a nice breeze to make it a little cooler as the it got later in the evening. We are heading away on Friday for a long weekend north of Whangarei so will be back into on our return next week!

  • 18 February - 5th & 6th climb

      19 February 2018

We went later in the afternoon for these two climbs. It was still really hot. Up the same way both times (the stairs). 6 climbs in 4 days is definitely helping with improving fitness and leg strength. Think we will have a rest day tomorrow!

Decided we would go up twice this morning. It was a lovely hot morning. Lots of people walking up. We went up the stairs the first climb, then up the other side the second climb. Not sure which one is easier/harder. Quite nice to mix it up though. Funnily enough, the second climb felt easier, probably cause we were warmed up. So good to see so many also doing the challenge.

What a great thing to do on a Friday night. Walking up the Mt and taking in the view is a real treat. Another swim to cool down when returned. Feels like we are making the most of summer, whilst also supporting such a worthy cause. Win win!

  • 15 February - First climb!

After hearing the Everest Challenge advertised on the radio, and all donations were going to Waipuna Hospice, we didn't hesitate in committing to this challenge. Missing the start date of 9 February, we thought we better hop to it and start our daily climb. First of 38. Looking forward to fitness improving with each climb and the reward of a swim in the sea makes it a very enjoyable outing!
