Participating in Wheelie Awesome Wheel-a-thon August 2023
Canterbury
The Conductive Education unit at Addington Te Kura Taumatua is a specialised team of professionals, including teachers, conductor, teacher aides and part time speech language therapists and visual resource teacher, who work together to support the learning and physical programmes for our students. Children participate in a group setting with individualised programmes developed to meet their individual needs.
What is a wheel-a-thon?
Well it can be whatever you want it to be as long as wheels are involved! We have chosen wheels because all the children that we support use wheels in some shape or form whether it be a walking frame, a wheelchair, riding a bike etc. We wanted an event that everyone could participate in and contribute to.
Hence we set ourselves a target to get to Invercargill via a scenic route. Our end distination is Conductive Education Southern. We need to travel 1007 kms to get there. As a group we will be combining all our kilometres wheeled to get there.
Please support Conductive Education and sponsor us as we journey around the South Island. . The funding raised from this event will go towards the building of an accessible home for adults with disabilities. The rental from the house will be used to cover the annual shortfall (currently $40,000) for CEC’s early intervention service. Tamariki and their whānau will benefit from the income generated by the adults living in the house who are learning the skills to be as independent as possible. It’s a win win!!!
Conductive Education Canterbury provides Early Intervention services to babies and children with additional needs and disabilities.
