In February 2016 I will be running the Tarawera 100 km Ultra to raise money for the massive recovery process taking place in Nepal.
Auckland
In April 2015 Nepal was struck by a magnitude 7.8 earthquake killing 9,000, injuring 23,000 and crippling an already desperately poor country. My wife and myself were lucky enough to visit this amazing country in 2014. Trekking the Himalaya was an experience that we will never forget due in part to the scenery but on a more personal level the people we met along the way. Throughout our journey the poverty was constantly apparent and it is hard to fathom how things could get worse for this country. But in April things got a lot worse.
Thus I decided to enter the Tarawera 100 km trail run in an attempt to do my bit to contribute to the relief efforts taking place in Nepal right now. It is going to be a real challenge for me just completing the thing. If I am to get people on board though it had to be a decent sized task.
Due to its New Zealand roots my charity of choice will be the Himalayan Trust. As a Kiwi in Nepal I was always accepted with open arms. This was due mostly to the work done by the Himalayan Trust which was originally founded by Sir Ed Hillary. Their work was evident everywhere we went in the Everest region and they are now contributing to the rebuild in this area.
The people of Nepal were already living in poverty and the earthquake has worsened their situation considerably, so please give what you can to help rebuild their lives.
10 Days to go, oopha!! 28 January 2016
10 days to go until the big day and things are coming together well. I am well and truly happy to be in my taper now, it's nice not having to get up at 5 on Saturday mornings!! The legs feel ready to roll but the big question is are they good for 100km :)
Thankyou so much to everyone who has donated thus far. Again it is a great cause in a very poor part of the world and the money donated will be much appreciated by those in need.
