Shaving my hair off for The Acorn Project Hawke's Bay. To raise awareness, funds and support our members.
Hawke's Bay
Hi, I'm Jo a Volunter and Trustee of the Acorn Project Hawke's Bay. I have also been a volunter with a previous organisation CanTeen for roughly 8-9 years. A couple of years back I had my hair out in a ponytail (it's nomally up in a 'messy' bun) our youth worker jokingly said to me that it would be perfect for a head shave. I went away and thought about it and told her I would on my 10 year anniversary with CanTeen.
Well unfortunatly the Hawkes Bay office here in Hastings closed (along with many others around the country). Our members lost their personal connection that a lot of them needed. Our fabulous Youth Worker decided that this wasn't good enough and co-founded the Acorn Project Hawke's Bay within a month or so.
It is now coming up to our 1st year of becoming The Acorn Project Hawke's Bay and I am sticking to my word, but didn't want to wait another 10 years, so we are doing this as a part of our 1 year birthday celebration.
Why am I going to shave my hair off? 1) to put awareness out into the community about The Acorn Project. 2) To raise some funds as we rely on the good people of the bay to be able to support our members and 3) Some of our members go through treatment and do not have a choice on whether they keep their hair or not. I want to show them that I can empathasie and support them.
So on the 29th of February 2020 I will be shaving off my hair. Venue and time to confirm later. My hair will be plaited and each plait will be 'auctioned' off so that person can cut the plait off.
I am a Trustee and a volunter
