Raising funds to help complete a therapeutic terrace garden at Waipapa Christchurch Hospital.
Canterbury
In the heart of the new Christchurch Hospital Waipapa building, nestled on top of the podium between the ward towers, is a rooftop terrace area set aside for use as an outdoor green space. It has been fitted out with plain grey tiles and at the Hagley Park end, glass panels that provide an uninterrupted vista into the treetops of the park.
We need your help to grow our garden into a reality. Together, as a community, we have the opportunity to create a small slice of paradise in the heart of a big busy hospital building dedicated to regeneration, healing, well-being, comfort and calm.
The cost to bring Te Marino to life is around $500,000. We have taken our first steps towards this with donations from many generous individuals and local companies who have donated their time to help with design, and pledged support to help bring the garden to life. In fact, we have raised $250,000, which is enough to complete stage one of the garden, which includes the planters and plants to help protect the privacy of patients in the bedrooms bordering the garden. We are continuing to fundraise, aiming to raise enough money to bring the whole garden to life with construction starting in October 2021.
While we have some amazing donations of services and assistance to get our garden off the ground, we still need plenty of help. Donations will go toward:
- the hundreds of plants that will make up our garden
- the bits that make our garden fit together such as decking, seating areas, communal tables, irrigation and a fun grass mound for the children to roll on
- large planters and larger trees to be positioned around the garden.
If you're interested in making a substantial contribution towards a specific component of the project and would like to discuss how this may be acknowledged, please contact Emma at emma@dormer.co.nz
A big thank you to those who have donated their time to support the design process, and who have pledged their support to help our garden grow: Tony Milne Landscape Architect; Rough and Milne Landscape Architects; The Happy Gardener - Rachel Vogan; Warren and Mahoney; RLB; Holmes Consulting; Canterbury DHB; Smith Cranes, Fulton Hogan, Dormer Construction.
We're a project team with a vision is to transform a rooftop terrace from a blank space into a beautiful green space that will benefit patients and visitors to Waipapa Christchurch Hospital.
