Scott is teaming up with Wellington HELP by competing in the 2020 Rotorua SUFFER Half Ironman challenge

Wellington

Scott Ussher is teaming up with Wellington Sexual Abuse HELP to raise money for this amazing charity by competing in the 2020 Rotorua SUFFER Half Ironman challenge. Wellington Sexual Abuse HELP support individuals, whānau and communities affected by sexual violence to move from surviving to thriving

Scott is a family man and a statistics enthusiast who has been working within the research field for 20 years. His love of research comes second only to his love of all things fitness. Scott has been competing in multisport events for the last ten years, completing 8 previous half ironman events and one full ironman.

He is ready for his next challenge and this will be the first time he has competed in the Rotorua Half Ironman. On similar courses, Scott has clocked in at just over 6 hours and he has challenged himself to beat this record on the grueling Rotorua course.

By supporting Scott through your generous donation, you can help Wellington HELP carry out their ongoing critical work.

In 2019-20, Wellington HELP:

• supported 799 clients

• received 409 crisis calls

• responded to 204 callouts to support survivors in crisis

• engaged in 2692 social work interventions with survivors and their whānau

• provided 4210 counselling appointments

Sexual violence can happen to anybody, so HELP supports absolutely anyone that has encountered sexual abuse or assault no matter their age, gender or sexual orientation. And because they recognise that sexual violence doesn’t just impact an individual in isolation, they extend that support to friends and whānau of survivors. HELP’s 24/7 crisis support line, social work and counselling support provides a wrap-around service which helps survivors on their journey to wellbeing. They have offices in Wellington city, Porirua and Kāpiti.

- 1 in 3 girls in New Zealand will encounter an unwanted sexual experience before the age of 16.
