Help us Create Headspace for parents affected by perinatal distress!

Being a parent is incredibly challenging and can be emotionally, physically and mentally overwhelming. In Aotearoa nearly half of all parents experience some form of mental distress, depression or anxiety during pregnancy or after the birth of their child, unfortunately not all are able to access the help they desperately need.

This can have serious long-term consequences and intergenerational impacts on the well being and resilience of the parent, child, whānau and wider community. Our mission is to ensure every whānau experiencing perinatal distress is cared for, supported and connected to their community, by providing access to professional support services and programmes.

Little Shadow has developed a counsellor facilitated group support programme He Waka Eke Noa - We’re all in this together, to allow parents to come together and get the care and professional counselling they need during this difficult time.

Parents openly share and explore their parenting challenges, experiences, strengths and values to collectively develop strategies to cope and to build meaningful relationships with other parents in similar circumstances.

Over 90% of our participants felt stronger as parents and 92% said they had more tools to cope and manage stress in their lives.
