  • Day 7 - Did she do it?

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for sticking with me throughout the week. I've really enjoyed this challenge and I'm proud to report that as of Sunday morning I successfully sank 1100 hoops for hounds. I've always believed you should give just a little bit more for the things that are important so shooting another 100 hoops was just that little bit more satisfying.

I thought I'd include a video clip of me actually sinking the 1000th shot - you'll see that I am by no means a gifted athlete, but I got there...... eventually :D

To everyone who donated to GAP, and supported me during the week I send you my sincere thanks, it's been so lovely to see your donations pop up on my page and see the total getting closer to my end goal. I'm going to leave my page open for another week so if you would like to share the link with friends, family, colleagues etc please do, I'd still love to raise $1,000!

  • Day 6 - Saturday

Saturday was a busy day here. The weather was a bit Groundhog Day, thankfully only a light drizzle mid afternoon so I grabbed the opportunity to get a few hoops added to my tally. A solid 90 minutes got me 210 successful hoops so my "goal" is now within reach. Huge thanks to everyone who has donated to my Givealittle page so far, and to those cheering me on, I truly appreciate all your support! Also thanks to Lauren, Tim and Mr Andy who had Brudda for a GAP approved playdate, it was a greyt opportunity for him to relax in the company of another lovely hound family.

  • Friday - Day 5

      13 February 2022

Well not much to report for Friday - Mother Nature gave me a whole half hour of dry skies, so not a great result for the day with just 60 successful hoops. My running total comes to 690 which was closing in on my 1000 goal but still a fair bit of work to do! The weather really isn't "playing ball" this week for outdoor activities.

More interestingly here's an update on Brudda. Today was his second day with me, things were very quiet as we go through what we call the decompression phase. A greyhound will typically take around 3 weeks to settle and feel comfortable to interact with his foster family. Right now Brudda is really comfortable in his crate which is lovely, he's taking things slowly observing what's going on in the house and not particular motivated by food just yet. The fact that he's not exactly tiny does make me think he is a secret foodie, I have started feeding him treats by hand to increase our interaction. I have also discovered that the day he came home with me was actually his 3rd Birthday!! Born on the 11th of February 2019 he is still really still an overgrown puppy :)

I've included a clip of me putting up lots of shots, and sinking just a few, some sessions go better than others!

  • Oops, Day 4 update!

I was so excited about having Brudda arrive, I forgot to mention how Day 4 went! Wow Thursday, what a stinking hot, humid day in Hawkes Bay - very unusual to have humidity here so it was extra challenging shooting hoops in the soup :) I had a late start to my efforts but at least it was slightly cooler by early evening. Thursday I achieved 330 successful hoop shoots, I think my accuracy is improving (at last). So that brings my total for the week to 630 hoops, go me!

  • Day 3 & 4 - From one extreme to another!

    Hey everyone,

Hope you're cruising toward some lovely weekend plans.

A bit of an update on what I've achieved over the last couple of days. Wednesday - hmmm, I thought I'd better do some work this week so I achieved NIL hoops for hump day - but on the plus side, look who's arrived! Meet Brudda, what a sweetie. Brudda has been a perfect gentleman since I picked him up Wednesday afternoon. Being outside a kennel environment is a whole new world for your average racing hound so it can be a scary place until a hound like Brudda has had time to decompress and get into a new routine, that'll be my job for the next 6 weeks or so. In that time I know I'll get to see his personality emerge and hopefully his confidence. We are taking baby steps for this first week, lots of quiet time, a little interaction and some very short, safe walks. If you'd be interested in finding out more about Brudda and how to adopt a retired greyhound check out our website https://greyhoundsaspets.org.nz/

  • Day 2 of 1000 hoops

      9 February 2022

Morning everyone, just a wee update on my personal challenge but firstly my sincerest thanks to everyone who has made a donation since page set up, you're support means so much!

Day 1 - a washout, in the literal sense. Following on from Sunday's deluge, Monday was a mirror image, and while we desperately need the rain the procrastinator in me won out, extra hoops added to all remaining days!

Day 2 - still raining, but not consistently, so the shoes were laced up, and sessions began. By end of day I had successfully sunk 300 shots (don't ask how many attempts there were), a good start once I finally got going! Stay tuned for updates :)
