Participating in Greyhounds As Pets (GAP) Annual Appeal 2022
Nationwide
Hi, I’m Nicky and I’m excited to be meeting my 10th foster greyhound this week! Together we’ll be teaming up to help raise funds for Greyhounds as Pets' Annual Appeal Week – 7th-13th of February.
Appeal Week is GAP's biggest annual fundraising event, we usually head to the streets as it’s an opportunity for the public to meet a hound and pop some coins in a bucket. This year we need to keep our volunteers safe so we’re going online to reach out for 2022, please help if you can!
Since 2006, GAP has matched thousands of retired racing Greyhounds with loving, forever families – your donation directly contributes to ensuring our greyhounds are set up for success – funds go to flea & worm treatments, behavioural and physiotherapy consultations, veterinary costs, collars, leads, beds and crates for foster care.
A donation from you means the work we do continues to ensure hounds like my next foster Brudda make it onto a couch - and into the hearts of his very own kiwi family, just where he deserves to be.
I’m not asking you to simply give, I’m up for a bit of a challenge - so you know I’m making an effort too. Throughout the week I’ll be shooting “Hoops for Hounds”. I’d love to raise $1000 for our cause, so I’m willing to lace up my sneakers and spend some time in the circle – can I shoot 1000 hoops? I have no idea how long this will take, but unlike greyhounds I do know slow and steady wins the race, so every day I’ll update my shoot count to keep you “up with the play”.
A bit about Brudda:
Brudda – I’m told he’s an interesting mix of shy and reserved but affectionate and playful, and he is HUGE! His forever person will need to be a little patient until Brudda feels confident he can just relax and be himself. Interested to know more? Keep an eye on our “Meet the Dogs” page, Dogs for Adoption | Greyhounds as Pets he’ll be making his debut soon!
A bit about Nicky:
Hi! I’m Nicky and I am the Events & Volunteers Coordinator for Greyhounds as Pets. I’m proud to be part of an amazing team who are truly passionate about seeing hounds make successful transitions to retirement with their own loving forever family. The best parts of my job are working with our incredible volunteers and hanging with hounds – of course!
Day 7 - Did she do it? 14 February 2022
Hi everyone,
Thanks for sticking with me throughout the week. I've really enjoyed this challenge and I'm proud to report that as of Sunday morning I successfully sank 1100 hoops for hounds. I've always believed you should give just a little bit more for the things that are important so shooting another 100 hoops was just that little bit more satisfying.
I thought I'd include a video clip of me actually sinking the 1000th shot - you'll see that I am by no means a gifted athlete, but I got there...... eventually :D
To everyone who donated to GAP, and supported me during the week I send you my sincere thanks, it's been so lovely to see your donations pop up on my page and see the total getting closer to my end goal. I'm going to leave my page open for another week so if you would like to share the link with friends, family, colleagues etc please do, I'd still love to raise $1,000!
We will be holding our Annual Appeal this year from February 7th until February 13th and GAP needs your help!
