"I Am Hope" at Dead Cow

  • DCG 2025... BYU Race of the Decade ?? Part 2

      2 July 2025

We saw so many other great moments:

    - Jane McAlpine, NZ Women's Record of 53 loops.

    - Holly Ranson, Aust Womens Record of 61 loops

    - NZ's Simon McLean ran like never before completing 90 & qualifying for Individual World Champs at "Bigs".

    - Michael Harvey (Sams dad) running 4 loops with Sam

    - Paul Maxwell of Dunedin NZ overcoming achilles issues early to fight on to 50.

    - Josh Hastie of CHCH NZ running on sore knee saw how it would go through 12, no worse so kept going to 37.

    - Jonathan Ash of Wollongong hit his first 100. Super nice fellow along with crew chief and wife Caroline. They sat & chatted with us Thurs night at Nanango RSL with Sam Harvey.

    - Running alongside legends of the sport such as Harvey Lewis USA current world champ (93 loops), Jennifer Russo USA (new PB 74), Oriol Antoli Spain (new PB, 102), Merjin Gerts Belgium (4 x 100+, 102), Michitaro Mizuno Japan (new PB 94)

One of the 87 runners/crew - new BYU world record for No. runners 24 hrs/100 miles/160km

    - Meeting Michitaro & Hiroto on Fri recce. Everytime saw them on course they enthusiastically called "Chaddo Desu"..........had to cheer them on after I'd finished. - A documentary team filmed them with drones, men of ATVs etc

    - Running with super bloke Joshua Tao from Singapore who completed 72 at Bigs in 2023.

    AND So much more!

We learnt alot watching the best in the world so can't wait to go long at our next BYU.

  • DCG 2025.....BYU Race of the Decade??? Part 1

      2 July 2025

Thanks RSS for supporting Team Gump Ultra to compete at Dead Cow Gully & raise money for "I Am Hope".

    - Raised $5610.........will give it a final push.

    - Ran 202km, DNF timed out on loop 30, 52/263 runners.

    - Memories: Appreciated beautiful landscapes of outback Aust, the comraderie & community uniting all endurance athletes, crews, local supporters, supporters from afar & organisers.

Aussie Phil Gore was last man standing breaking the world record with 19 loops or 798.5 km thanks to the assist from Kiwi Sam Harvey. Sam came back from the dead numerous times showing mental toughness & good karma can prevail against extreme physical & spiritual adversity.

Sam ran until he could run no more, collapsing on loop 119. Some say physical exhaustion is the holy grail of BYU, Sam said his heart was full.

Phenominal Phil will wait another day to be pushed to his limit! He looked fantastic saying day 2 was tough but then it got easier.

My crew Barry and JD did an amazing job supporting me through day 1, night 1 then well into day 2. We were part of a world record for most ultra backyard runners surpassing 24 hours or 160 kms. A great event, thank you all for supporting us to raise money for I am hope!
