All the money we raise on the walk will be donated to a charity of our choice, this being kidscan.
Wellington
Hi there,
India and Eliza here! We have decided to participate in a around the bay walk. This includes us walking from the base of Amritsar street (Khandallah) all the way to the Chocolate fish cafe (Shelly bay) This walk is around 15 km, We are doing this to show the great lengths that some kiwi kids have to travel to get to school. Therefore we will be doing the walk rain or shine.
The issue we have chosen to address is the increasing number of children suffering from neglect, we chose this because we feel that no child should live without the basic necessities and we can’t imagine how hard it would be for them. A quote from KidsCan is “I give monthly because all children deserve an equal chance in life” This quote means that every chlid deserves a fair start to life and should have the basic needs which would be food, water, warmth and a roof over their head. Some of the statistics from KidsCan show that, 290,000 kiwi kids live in poverty which is 6% of the population of New Zealand. 20% of children in New Zealand live in food insecurity and they are more likely to leave school without NCEA level 1. There is a letter from a principal from an early childhood center begging for help with their kids, "Please can you help us … I am really standing hat in hand for these children." The sad thing is that over 741 schools in New Zealand are going through this and need all the support they can get, that’s why we have chosen to help fundraise for KidsCan.
