Support Nick’s attempt at the Ring of Fire 74km solo ultra race around Mt Ruapehu, to raise awareness for cancer research and the GMRI
Nationwide
I am a head and neck cancer patient aiming to raise awareness and funds for cancer research - in particular for New Zealand’s Gillies McIndoe Research Institute (GMRI).
While I was in hospital for my own treatment last year, I wanted to find a way to support cancer research, so that one day, patients who follow me will not need difficult, risky treatments.
In particular, I want to raise awareness and funds to support the work of the GMRI’s phase 2 clinical trial for glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. I know several patients with this type of cancer, and the GMRI has been making excellent, rigorous progress innovating a new treatment for it. They now need more funding to expand their clinical trial and reach more people.
I’ve set myself the goal to
1. Run the Ring of Fire race, a 74km circumnavigation of Mt Ruapehu, on Saturday 11th March 2023
2. Give a presentation about the experience in late May at a fundraiser night.
In hospital and in my recovery, I wanted a fitting, worthy challenge to look forward to, run on a mountain that holds special meaning for me.
Thankyou for supporting the GMRI. All funds donated go directly to the account of the GMRI, a registered NZ Charitable Trust.
Thankyou for your support! 3 June 2023
Hi everyone. Thankyou very much for your generous donations and support of my fundraiser for the Gillies McIndoe Research Institute. Last week, I presented the story of my journey into the Ring Of Fire, at the Gillies McIndoe Research Institute Gala night.
There’s a summary of my presentation, and a recording of it, on my blog, here:
