Jack is completing a Half Ironman in memory of his mum Penny Palmer who passed away from cancer 13 years ago. Thank you for your donations!
Christchurch, Canterbury
Hey everyone,
13 years ago my mum passed away from cancer. This is not news to most people who know me but 2024 would have been my mum’s 70th birthday. As a way of remembering her I decided to challenge myself to something new.
A number of ideas went through my head and I wanted to relate it to the number 70 in some way. Finally, the right event came up - an Ironman 70.3: Half Ironman. 70 miles of swimming, cycling and running for a 70th birthday.
I have been training for the past 6 months to be able to complete this event which has definitely been the hardest training of my life to date however I’m all locked and loaded to complete the Oxman 70.3 on the 1st of December 2024 in Oxford, Canterbury.
As a way of giving back I have decided to raise money for a charity that I think is closely related to what I went through. When my mum passed away I was lucky enough to have an amazing support network around me of family and friends that meant I always had a shoulder to lean on or talk to.
This is not always the case for many teenagers who either themselves or their family are affected by cancer and that’s where amazing charities like Canteen come into play.
I have decided to fundraise money for Canteen so they can continue to help out teenagers who are affected by cancer.
To continue the theme of 7s, I’m aiming to raise at least $700 for Canteen.
Thank you for your support!
Jack :)
