    Final Trade!

OK, so last day of trading and I’m absolutely pumped with my final trade! I swapped one of my line drawings for this amazing portrait by local artist Louise Kane. Similar paintings of hers have sold at auctions for over $1000! Thanks for the amazing generosity!

The painting is called Moku and it’s acrylic on canvas. Its 600mm x 500mm.

So pumped to be able to sell this! Thanks Lousie!

Thanks again to all the awesome people who have helped me get this far – you guys are all stars! Tomorrow is the close of trading. Everything I have accumulated to date will then be loaded on to trademe to be bid on with all proceeds going to help local entrepreneurs in Myanmar and Malawi

If you want to show your support without bidding on an item, please make a donation!

  • Drawers get a new lease of life!

      20 September 2015

Amazing what a bit of sandpaper and a lick of paint can do! I’ve given the remaining three drawers I traded with Kim Penk a new lease of life by turning them into a bookcase. Stoked with how it came out!

I’m actually a little gutted to trade it off – I wouldn’t mind keeping it for myself! Make me an offer before I get too attached! With one week of trading left it would be great to trade these for something that could fetch real value on trademe. I’m after anything with a good resale value or alternatively if someone can offer an experience of some sort that would be brilliant.

    FYI, the dimensions are 1320h x 550w x 200d.

Thanks to everyone who’s donated to the challenge so far. You guys make the difference! All the money we're raising is going to our projects in Myanmar and Malawi. Please show your support too by donating to the givealittle page in support of the Trade Up Challenge!

  • Kids Science Kits!

      18 September 2015
    Main image

Thanks for all the upcycling suggestions for the drawers I traded with Kim Penk. I’ve taken it all on board and am currently working on a new piece of furniture. I won’t say what it is just yet but watch this space over the next few days to see what I create!

    NEW TRADE!

I got a great offer to swap the Endeavor picture i made a few weeks back picture for a couple of really cool Kidz Labs science kits. These will be great for children (or adults…) of all ages. If you like the look of them then make me an offer for something to trade! Alternatively, pass this on to someone you think might like the kits

Thanks again to all those people who’ve donated to the challenge so far! All your donations are going to support local entrepreneurs in Myanmar and Malawi who do this type of trading for real! If you haven’t donated yet, check out my give a little page to make a donation and show your support!

  • More Artwork!

      17 September 2015

Sticking to an art theme I decided to take two of the drawers from my trade with Kim Penk and turn them into art work!

I’ve painted the drawers and turned them into picture frames and then created a couple of paper art works. The paper is mounted off the back of the frame to give it added depth.

Look forward to your comments and trade offers!

  • Upcycling Drawers, and a New Trade!

Thanks for all the upcycling suggestions for the drawers I traded with Kim Penk. I’ve taken it all on board and am currently working on a new piece of furniture. I won’t say what it is just yet but watch this space over the next few days to see what I create!

Since there was a lot of interest in my artwork last time, I’m also producing two new pieces from two of the drawers. They’ll be different from the last ones but will be equally as clever. Again, watch this space over the next few days!

    NEW TRADE!

Andrew Colgan drove a hard bargain swapping the Endeavor picture for a couple of really cool Kidz Labs science kits. These will be great for children (or adults…) of all ages. If you like the look of them then make me an offer for something to trade! Helen Luxford, I’m looking your way. These would be great for your boys!

  • Spaceman Finds a New Home

      9 September 2015
    Main image

After some positive feedback about the pictures it seems there was a clear favourite - the spaceman.

After assessing all the offers for trading, and doing a bit of bartering, I kept with the "up cycling" theme and traded the spaceman picture for a set of old drawers and some wood.

I have a few ideas about what I'll create so watch this space for when I'm finished to see what my next trade will be!

  • Time to Trade! - Pictures

      8 September 2015
    Main image

After a bit of thought, what better way to start of the Trade Up Challenge than with a bit of value add "Up Cycling"?

I had some old card in my garage and have used random bits of rubbish and a bit of imagination to turn them into cool pictures!

    There is a

*Rat rod car using washers for wheels

    *A key ring diamond ring

*A 50c sailing ship (using the old 50c with Cook's Boat the Endevour on it)

*A sun flower using an old sun flower oil bottle cap

*A Spaceman with a Duracell battery power pack

Givealittle won't allow me to add more than one photo so check out the facebook album for close ups of the pictures

FIRST TRADE: Make me an offer for your favourite - and be generous! Ideally something that's fun and something I can add value to easily like these picture frames. Comment bellow, email me or send me a message on Facebook.

If you have nothing to offer but REALLY like one (or more) of these pictures then get in touch. I'm sure if I get a generous donation then I might be able to let one go for "free"

So, these are the first items up for trading. I think I'm going to need to "Value Add" before doing my next trade. Any thoughts? Comment below and let me know what you think I should do!

  • First Trading - Avondale Markets

      7 September 2015
    Main image

Yesterday I managed to do my first trade! I thought I'd explore the "Garage Sale" markets at Avondale Markets to see if I could pick up a bargain for my $2.

When trawling through the underground market I came across boxes of old picture frames. The lady in charge wouldn't budge from $2 per frame.

She was busy laying displays around the shop and was crankily trying to get one of her staff to buy a round of coffees for the team. I jumped on the opportunity and offered to do a coffee run (her shout) in exchange for a few more picture frames. She accepted!

Thinking about it I'm not sure how the trade officially worked but essentially I got 5 picture frames for $2 and a coffee run!

Now - what to do with the frames... Watch this space!

I have $2 in my hand and a few ideas in my head about what to buy to start my trading. I think I'll check out the Avondale Markets tomorrow to see if I can pick up a bargain at the garage sale stalls there.

I'm pretty pumped to be taking part in this challenge. Can't wait to see how much I can create with a 2$ kick start! Watch this space!
