Fundraising for Diabetes NZ
Hamilton Lake, Hamilton
On the 29th of May I will be celebrating my 10 year diaversary. (10 years since being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes).
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune reaction (the body attacks itself by mistake). This reaction destroys the beta cells in the pancreas that make insulin and therefore insulin can no longer be produced by the body. Insulin is a naturally occurring hormone your pancreas makes that is essential for allowing your body to use sugar (glucose) for energy. Your body requires insulin to keep you blood glucose levels in range.
I have decided to walk 10 laps of the Hamilton Lake (38km) on Sunday the 2nd of June 2024.
I want to raise money to help others like myself who battle daily with everything that Type 1 diabetes throws at us.
Please join me at Innes Common, Hamilton Lake on Sunday the 2nd of June 2024 from 7am.
My Type 1 diabetes diagnoses has never set me back. It has made me become stronger, more resilient and have so much more appreciation for the life we are lucky to live.
However, I dream that one day we will find a cure.
If you have money to spare then it would be greatly appreciated if you donate. This money will be going to Diabetes NZ to help them with all of the work they do for us.
Thanks,
Britney Stirling.
