Jo has a heart as big as her love for music, and for her 70th birthday she has requested no presents. If you are in a position to do so, Jo has kindly asked that any well-wishers make a donation to a charity that's very close to her heart - Nourish @ Christmas.
Nourish@Christmas is a community group founded by Jo's daughter-in-law Gabe and her friend Claire who are two Wellington locals. The purpose of Nourish @ Christmas is to spread some Christmas sparkle and ease some pressure for families in our local community doing it tough. Our mission is to support others through the giving hampers of food at Christmas. What started off as a one off idea 9 years ago with 21 hampers has grown significantly and in the last nine years Nourish has provided hampers to 4,607 families, valued at $150 each. We’re a grass roots charity, with a focus on families supporting other families in our local community.
Our hampers are two boxes of food, made up of fresh fruit, vegies and eggs, and pantry staples like Weetbix, rice, marmite and muesli bars. We also add some Christmas treats. The hampers are worth around $150, and this year we’ve had requests for 1,780 hampers so this means through donations, fundraising and sponsorship we need to raise $267,000 to provide this food to families in our region this Christmas.
We are an entirely volunteer run group, and every dollar donated goes straight into providing hampers to families.
