Two year old Ka'iulani was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and her whanau need to raise funds to get her overseas for the treatment
Waikato
Moana and Manihera Forbes' 2 year old daughter Ka’iulani, was diagnosed with stage 4 high risk neuroblastoma in December 2016. Ka’iulani has a tumour the size of a softball in her abdomen, which has also wrapped around her spine, and is eating her bones. The risks of surgery were too great to proceed with, and she has been undergoing chemotherapy. Unfortunately she hasn’t shown the response that was hoped for and there was no shrinkage to the large tumour in her abdomen and bones.
Her whanau are now fundraising to get her access to treatment overseas that is not available here in NZ with options ranging from $350,000 to $2 million dollars.
I have known Moana for the past four years and know that her and Manihera are fantastic parents who are putting 100% of their efforts in to their little girl. This means that they have both needed to give up full time work to manage looking after Ka’iulani, her visits to Starship hospital as well as looking after Ka’iulanis new baby sister. Having young children myself, I can only imagine the stress of the challenges they are facing and would like to do as much as I can to help support this whanau.
My goal is to raise $50,000 to go towards Ka’iulani receiving the treatment she needs to fight this battle. Once this target is reached I will shave my head and am reaching out to all of you to join me in supporting Ka’iulani by donating through this Give a Little page. You can also follow her journey on https://m.facebook.com/groups/1019443918202465?ref=bookmarks and take part in some of the awesome fundraising efforts the Forbes whanau and friends have been organising. Give a little or a lot – every little bit helps!
Liam and I are both friends of Moana and Manihera, and when Liam asked how he could help, a few of us got together to make a plan and help this amazing family.
