HELP MORE CANCER PATIENTS GET A BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE. FULFIL GEMMA'S WISH!
Auckland
Paddle For Hope fundraiser has been originally established in 2011 to raise awareness for rehabilitation after being diagnosed with Breast cancer. We since aligned withe Pinc and Steel rehabilitation trust and established a program on the water called PaddleOn. With the help of Stand Up paddle instructors, Starboard NZ and qualified physiotherapists - we support ALL cancer patients and give them a better quality of life.
Karin Horen, PFH co- founder, Starboard ambassador and twice breast cancer survivor ,has been a passionate paddle boarder for more than 8 years and has been instructing on the water. This year Karin met the beautiful Gemma Delia, cancer patient ,who loved the water so much, enjoyed Paddle boarding and was fortunate to paddle with her at Takapuna and Lake Papuke several times, meditate and talk about life, dreams and share their cancer journey sorties.
"We have been privileged to have known Gemma and enjoy her contagious smile, positivity and fun spirit" Karin says. Unfortunately Cancer took her away from us on September 4th 2018.
"Gemma was one of our heroes". This page is dedicated to her wish ;Gemma asked to donate to Paddle For Hope and help more people on the water. The funds raised will help spread the word, help more people and support the PaddleOn program - fulfil Gemma's kind wish.
Every Dollar counts. The PaddleOn program has helped more than 450 people so far on the water. The paddle For Hope is a fundraising vehicle that supports the program. It involves strong team work and community support. It is not funded by the government. Cancer rehabilitation on the water has a huge impact on cancer patients well being and quality of life. The combination of Vitamin D, water, Sharing their story with others , while receiving support from physiotherapists has been proven to be beneficial mentally and physically.
" There is no government support for cancer rehabilitation and it is vital to raise awareness and help as much as possible from our experience " says Karin.
