I'm running as part of a team & squad in the AGS 1000 Miler raising funds to help support The Key to Life Charitable Trust.
Auckland
The 1,000 Miler event, held every four years, will take place at Auckland Grammar from April 12-16 as part of the School’s 150 year celebrations and "giving back programme".
Runners will run a 1km circuit around the grounds of the School and the aim is to run 1000 miles (approx. 1600 km), in relay within 100 hours (approximately 4.5 days).
Boys will run 8 hour long shifts from Form 3 running from 8am-4pm, Forms 4 & 5 taking over from 4pm-Midnight and finally Forms 6 & 7 from Midnight to 8am.
The event creates its own collective spirit, unique character and becomes one of the major memories of a student’s time at Auckland Grammar. The event installs many positive attributes in the young men taking part - they quickly learn the art of setting personal goals and the importance of working as a team.
All funds raised from the event will go to The Key to Life Charitable Trust, run by Mike King, the 2019 New Zealander of the Year.
Life gets busy as we all know, as a student being away for just over a week representing Rowing and then returning to sit exams, but it's all about giving back and I would appreciate any support in donating to such a worthy cause as I run in my Midnight to 8am shifts!
As an ex Distant Squad Member, I wanted to get involved and wholeheartedly help support, while representing my current sporting codes Rowing & Athletics but most importantly working alongside fellow AGS peers as part of a team participating in the 1000 Miler. I hope this continues to raise awareness amongst those out there in need, as we aim to raise funds to support this cause that has a significant impact amongst New Zealanders.
