Kopi Gretel Laalaai-Suasua | 16 Years Old | Samoan | Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate

My name is Kopi Gretel Laalaai-Suasua. I am a New Zealand born Samoan. I am currently attending Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate and is one of the ManuTaiko or Senior Prefects.I am studying Calculs, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English and Samoan Language hoping to get into University and study Engineering.

This year I was fortunate enough to attend the Rotary National Science and Technology Forum 2023 held in January this year. I was also a recipient of Toloa Secondary Schools Scholarship in 2022. I am currently a recipient of the Toloa Secondary Schools Scholarship 2023. I also received the Science Shiled for NCEA Level 2 in the beginning of this year. I have also represented Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate in the South auckland Maths Competition in 2020.

What interests me in STEM is that it mainly includes Mathematics and Mathematics is my favorite subject. I am planning on studying Engineering at University and hoping to help out in my community and also my family.

This will be a great opportunity for me to meet other people and also meet people with similar interests and this will also help me with my career of becoming an Engineer in the future and helping my family as well as my community.

Firstly we want to say thank you to every single friend, whanau, donor, organisation and beyond who have supported these incredible cadets by giving to their give-a-little. We have had some sponsors directly donate and it it's not reflected in the give a little but we are actually nearing the end and are almost there! We have heard that the Otara-Papatoetoe local board is approving some of the cadets a small grant to assist toward airfares and once we know who they have approved we will then know if we have finally reached the goal and who they have funded out of the cadets.
