As a Family of a Hard of Hearing child. My son TePeehi-Tukotuku is only 15 months old and we have come across so many obstacles when it has come to his hearing, I myself found it very hard to cope with, having two more children who are hearing. Since having TePeehi in our lives I have wanted to make a change in the Deaf Community (A positive one). A step that would change the world on how people perceive the Deaf Community, A change that will make everything so much easier on Deaf people whether it be emotionally, physically or mentally - those three things play a huge part in how our society overcomes our daily happenings throughout life. I am so lucky to have the biggest support group behind my son and I. I am wanting to make sure that others have that same support as us. So here we are supporting this kaupapa with our all.

We have chosen Deaf Aotearoa as our charity to give to you may ask why?? Here's why!

Deaf Aotearoa is the national organisation representing the voice of Deaf New Zealanders, and the national service provider for Deaf people in New Zealand.

Deaf Aotearoa services are available to deaf people from early childhood. access to New Zealand Sign Language and transitioning from school to greater independence, to employment support and assistance with accessing equipment. We aim for full access and participation for Deaf people in NZ, with the purpose of creating opportunities that give the Deaf community the ability to achieve their aspirations. Deaf Aotearoa works closely with the Deaf community, government agencies and other organisations to strengthen rights for Deaf people.

Deaf Aotearoa also runs New Zealand Sign Language Week each year, to promote and celebrate New Zealand Sign Language as an official language of New Zealand.
