An amazing effort by the Southern Lakes Swim Club for their annual charity Swimathon saw an incredible amount of swimmers giving open water a go with 207 swims completed over the 18hrs (by 66 swimmers & 3 dogs) and a very generous amount of funds raised for the cause.

    💙💙💙

HUGE thanks to my local crew at the Southern Lakes Swim Club for getting behind the cause by epic proportions and hosting an 18hr Swimathon in beautiful Lake Wakatipu (Queenstown) on the 18th Dec - raising funds to go as direct donations to the cause!

Only three weeks later, 20/05/21, saw my window for the crossing appear, though much later in the swimming season than the average swimmer would like given dropping water temperatures.

With forecasts changing by the hour it was decided to swim North Island to South Island and hope for the best (turns out the weather would completely turn on us midswim making for a hellish day out in the water).

Battled through to touch the South Island in 6hrs 59mins - becoming the 136th person across (I believe), second fastest female (N-S direction) and sharing the record of the latest season swim (to the day) with a man from 2019.

Beyond thrilled to have successfully completed the 40.2km swim on 20/04/21 in a time of 12hrs 24min. I am officially only the 67th to have completed it in history, as to date the sixth fastest female (swimming the long course).

This is swimming under global marathon rules of no wetsuit, unassisted and continuous. For this to occur it meant a 4am start from Little Waihi swimming north to the Taupo Yacht Club.

  • Every bit helps!

      16 March 2021

Have decided to remove a set goal amount in lieu of simply raising as much as possible through such generous donations!
